[360°] Melaleuca parvifolia (Houdini)

Postby Pup » March 27th, 2009, 12:01 pm

G,day guys and gals. Here is one of my favorite trees. I call this one Houdini. It has died and come back 4 times.
It was collected from a swamp in Southern River a suburb of Perth WA. In 1992 by a friend. He died in 1994.
I helped his wife with his estate. She gave me the tree. I started work on it in 1999. In 2001 it was chosen as one of the trees for the 2001 AABC
convention to be held in Fremantle.
It was chosen as the best exhibit and was awarded the BCI presidents award. Given to us on behalf of Solita Rosade by Lindsay Bebb.
This was the first time the award had been given. So we were both very pleased. For the first time in my life I was speechless.
This tree has a lot of history. It has caused some controversy as to the name and I have done it again misspelt it it is Parviflora it has also been called Alternifolia. The reason I doubt this name is. It was collected from a local swamp, there are quite a few trees there the same, too big. Alternifolia is a native to the Coffs Harbour area. Unless it was a strong wind or a bloody big bird I do not see it. It also has a very aromatic foliage. Now I will hand it over to you. :D

Stunning! Quite a fighter, love the bark colours and its contrast to the foliage.

Nice tree Pup! :)
Great taper and movement. The Bark is stunning!
Can I suggest some more lateral development on the two lower branches? This is something only time will solve.
But! A nice tree all the same. Considering its history it must have a survival instinct approaching godliness.
Regards,
Gary

That's all you need is clumsy people at a show! :x :x :x

The only alternative is to lock your Bonsai away and never show them - not a good solution eh?

Persevere Pup it is worth every effort. :D

When I am offered help for carrying in or out, I always ask if the offerer is insured against breaking or dropping one on their foot. I usually end up carrying everything myself. Many journeys and much pain.
My name is Don and I'm a bonsaiholic but I'm on medication (when I can find the tablets)
My imaginary friend 'Givitago' takes over when I'm not sure of myself in print.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure.
